There are good-looking guys, average looking guys, weird looking guys; there are hot women, so-so women, and fugly women.
Somehow in the past, through assortative mating (whereby people find their comparable value/SMV mate) we managed.
Now something odd has happened. Unrestrained hypergamy, courtesy of the regression of women to jungle-era mate selection, has made it so only the top contingent of men get interest. Oh sure, the other 80% can get women, that's what PUA is all about -- but it's on very unfavorable terms. It's shit-test after shit-test to play-act as an alpha, only to secure the plate, for her to notice that maybe you're not top 20%, compared to A, B, and C, plate drops and it's back to the well again. The jungle-mentality woman only values the top 20% (in skewed SMV terms; ie: tattoos increase your alphatude). The problem is that the bottom 80% of women including women with SMV 5 and below have the same attitude. We've talked about Carouselers, but also Avoiders- avoiders are the women who can't get an alpha and who would rather sit out her sexual prime rather than date someone with her own SMV. The Avoiders too have put the 80% on the back-burner for the most part -- and just like Carouselers, they only come by when they hit the Wall and want kids.
So you see a chick with a SMV of 3. You think she would be pleased to see a reasonably attractive man, even if not a 20%'er. Nope. She has the attitude of a frumpy reject, because that's what she is. She has been rejected by the only men that matter to her - the top 20%. Interest from the rest of men is of no consolation. You see a fat chick. Is she making eyes at men she might actually have a chance with? Not at all, she's simmering that Brad Pitt doesn't want her.
Jungle women crave a status difference in their 20s. Whether that can be achieved through being an alpha, faking being an alpha, deriving status from your occupation, your race, your height, your being a local & her being an immigrant, possibly wealth (although that backfires with most prime-era women), being semi-famous (ie: a DJ), peacocking to demonstrate high social status, etc. is pretty much the only way to attract them. Assortative mating- at least in her 20s- is a thing of the past. (although as soon as men who do want to assume this status gap do so, they may test out their status differential on average chicks (4-5), but they soon realize these techniques work just as well as better looking girls, and so the average chicks rides on the carousel don't last long).
*Note: I mentioned 20-something women have this lens, but it occurs to me that some women never leave this (Cro-Magnon era) hypergamous stage, so it can also apply for 30-somethings, 40-somethings, 50-somethings, etc.
